The slurry needed for licorice production is prepared in a mixing tank. Ingredients are blended into a homogeneous mass by two counter-rotating agitators, then transferred to the extruder by pump — providing a continuous feed to the cooking extruder.
Because most mixing installations work one batch at a time and the extruder needs continuous feeding, a storage tank (day tank) is recommended. A day tank typically holds twice the volume of the mixing tank, allowing batch after batch to be pumped in as a buffer — ensuring uninterrupted supply to the extruder.
The water-heated day tank is a jacketed vessel with inspection opening, agitator and level indicators. A double filter station can be easily switched and cleaned during operations — no production downtime required.
